Dr Tanvi Bhatkal has more than 10 years of experience in international development and public policy research. She is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute of Development
Studies, where she focuses on the sanitation challenge in small towns in Asia and Africa. She
has a PhD in Geography (University of Cambridge) on the everyday politics of urban
belonging at the intersection of gendered and minority rights in India. Her research takes an
intersectional approach to analyse political economy, cultural politics, and policy issues on
notions of urban citizenship and infrastructure. She has conducted both primary and
secondary research in India, Nepal and Kenya, and remote research in Thailand, Ghana,
Ethiopia, and Pakistan.
Tanvi specialises in analysing international content from streaming platforms such as Netflix and Amazon prime. Studying films and tv series that have had compelling, relatable characters and plotlines are her main areas of focus. She also has an interest in analysing light-hearted, intelligently crafted comedies.
